Christmas Tree Forest Gala - December 08, 2016
Today, 11/11 at the 11th hour, our Community honored all who have served our country. It was an emotional day filled with memories and beauty. The Veterans Day Celebration was a special event to be shared with all.
Early in the day down at the riverfront on the Green River, Veterans, family members and friends gathered to prepare for a balloon launch later in the day, in memory of those we have lost.
At 11:00 sharp, George Rhodes welcomed all in attendance at the City Building, formally the Armory. The presentation of colors was provided by the MCHS JROTC. Sierra O'Nan, member of the MCHS JROTC sang the National Anthem. There was recognition of Veterans in Attendance with Daven Edmonds playing the Service Hymns of each of the US Military groups.
The MCHS JROTC presented a beautiful tribute to all POW/MIAs after which all deceased veterans passing this past year were named and honored. The Guest Speaker was Phillip Morris, Colonel U.S. Army, Retired, who is no stranger to McLean County. He told many stories but also provided relevant and current information relative to all U.S. Military Groups. Wayne Morris sang "God Bless the U.S.A." and Ronnie Dame offered a blessing for all Veterans and for our dinner.
After a enjoying a fine meal, all proceeded down to the riverfront to welcome the parade elements including the MCHS JROTC, the MCHS Band, escorted by the Livermore Volunteer Fire Department.
Taps were sounded by Steve Riggs, after which the balloons were launched. A beautiful and respectful day.......

While the Livermore Fall Fest suggests "Fall-like" weather, it was more like the "Dog Days of Summer" weather - 92 degrees in the shade and just a bit of humidity in the air! But that did not dampen the days' events at all. The Golf Cart Parade started off the festival throughout the RV Park. The Golf Cart Skills Competition was so much fun for the participants and thanks to Tony's Golf Carts, the winners of these four challenges truly appreciated their 1st place winning prizes! Thanks Tony!
The three Bounce Houses were filled to capacity and the Barrel Rides and Hay rides were a hit as well as an excellent mode of transportation from one end of the park to the other. Our vendors, while in melt-down mode, produced some of the best festival foods ever - "Kettle Korn", pork burgers, hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, walking tacos, pulled pork sandwiches and burgoo. Mayors Dennis Revlett & Charley Strole provided beans and cornbread and the dessert favorites of the Fest were homemade ice cream and shaved ice. Lemonade, ice tea and just plain cold water saved the day for many of the attendees!
Ray Wilkerson provided music in the early afternoon hours and was followed by "Loose Wheel", a Country, Blues, and Southern Rock Band.
Many thanks to our Sponsors: Ace Hardware, Asphalt Services, B.F. Evans, FSB, Jennings & Little, Kentucky Drag Boat Association, KU, Logsdon Lumber, Southern Outdoors, Dann Fenwrick, Ky Thurman, Scott Haire and Sonny Renfrow.
Thank you to Buckcreek Baptist Church, Livermore Methodist Church and the Community Church for providing much needed assistance at the Fest and providing games for the 'kiddles'!
And many thanks to those local volunteers from our community who just jumped in to help with "set up" and "take down", filling in the gaps and generally just being available wherever needed. You all are really appreciated!
Finally, to all who came out in the heat to support our Event - Thank You!

The Livermore Lions Club selected a beautiful day for their annual Tractor Drive which benefits their Eye Screening Program! Temps were perfect with sunshine and just enough of a breeze to stay comfortable. Twenty-two tractors participated in this fundraiser. They set out from Myer Creek Park with an escort and proceeded through many of the back roads of McLean County. The destination was Sacramento at the Battle Fields where they enjoyed lunch prepared by the Lions. And then back on the roads again towards Myer Creek Park. It was a beautiful day!
Thanks to all who participated in this event.

Livermore Lions Club 2016 Tractor Drive
The Kentucky Drag Boat Association has canceled the August 27th-28th boat races in Livermore due to flooding in the area. Water levels on the Green River are at 16 ft and projected to rise to 19 ft by Wednesday at noon. They expect 15 ft on Friday which is 5 ft higher than they have ever run. Survey pins will still be under water and the conditions may not be safe due to strong current and debris. Even should the river drop back to what might appear 'normal' by Saturday, the "seen" and "unseen" floating debris of the flooding this week would create a safety issue for all of the racing participants who would be racing at speeds up to 170 mph.
We are sure going to miss all of the race teams and it is disappointing to not have "Thunder on the Green" this year, but safety first and always. Can't wait to welcome all of you at next year's event. See ya in Livermore!
Time trials for the drag boats on Saturday, August 27th, begin at 10:00 am in Livermore, KY on the Green River and the drag boat races on Sunday, August 28th begin at 11:00 am.
At "Thunder on the Green", boats race down a quarter-mile track set up on the Green River at Livermore, KY between the Main Street and RV Park boat ramps. The boats take off from the Main Street Ramp and exit at the RV Park ramp. The name of the event comes from the intense roar of the engines echoing across the Green River.
Boats compete in classes based on how fast they can complete the race. Classes range from 7-second boats, meaning the boat crosses the finish line only seven seconds after leaving the starting line, to 23-second boats. The boats race at speeds of up to 170 mph.
There is much to see and do in between races the entire weekend. Fans have a wide range of dining selections to choose from and the pit location is a great spot to just check out the boats and talk with their owners."
A week of rain, rain, rain! And July 4th was no exception. The decision to postpone the celebration of our independence was made about noon on Monday, the 4th. With the projected forcast of uncertain, inclement and "thunderstormy" weather, it only made sense in the interest of safety for all attendees. Of course, at 5:00 on the 4th, the sun came out in all of its glory, but the the grassy hills by the riverside were very soggy so there was no regret with the decision. Social media was flooded with the information as were the local news stations to make sure the word got out regarding the postponement.
Tuesday, the 5th, was sunny and hot - in the mid 90's with just a dash of humidity. The party went on exactly as planned. The Livermore Volunteer Fire Department Units 433, 432 and 435 started down Main street with sirens blaring and horns honking. The parade produced 1st place bicycle winner Makeana Crowe and 2nd place bicycle winner Gabe Choronister. The golf cart 1st place winners were the "Willis Clan" and the 2nd place winners were the "Schocklee Clan". There was also a special Mention for Harley and Austin Warner driving their decorated motorized cart. Ross Owen of Livermore rode his home-made street-legal motorized bike in the parade. All the participants were very innovative in their decorations and the kickoff to the afternoon of celebration was well under way.
The corn hole games began and the food booths were busyyyyy! The Livermore Lions were cooking pork burgers, hamburgers, brats and hotdogs. The Livermore Baptist Youth provided ice cream, drumsticks, push-ups, and many other sweet delights. The Kentucky Outlaws 9U Baseball Moms created slushies which were a wonderful 'hit' on that hot day! There was a watermelon eating contest & Bingo games, sponsored by Independence Bank; music by "Loose Wheel", sponsored by Ace Hardware & B.F. Evans Ford, and all the street dancing you could handle in the heat! And the FIREWORKS, sponsored by Independence Bank, were AWESOME! What a wonderful fun-filled afternoon and evening celebrating our country's 240th celebration of freedom!

189 t-shirts waiting to be distributed for the 5K in 2 days!
April 23rd, 2016 arrived a tad soggy with a light mist and “coolish” weather, but it developed into a great day for running, walking, biking or even “strollering” during the 4th Annual Livermore Woman’s Club 5K Run/Walk for MDA. The color of the day was “Safety Orange” allowing everyone to be seen clearly on the streets of Livermore, KY. Registration started at 7:00 am at the Pavilion by the Green River and by 8:00 am all were lining up for the start of the race. Former Mayor, Sonny Renfrow, called out to everyone to be on the ready and counted down 3, 2, 1 ---at which point he, in a four-wheeler, led everyone at full speed onto the 5K course, just barely staying ahead of them! It was really a fun day! And to everyone’s surprise, little Layla Hohimer walked to the Finish Line and sat right down on it, almost as if she was saying “I got this!”
