The Livermore Lions Club 2019 Christmas Parade is in the books. There were decorated floats, decorated golf carts, decorated side x sides (UTV's), decorated classic cars and trucks, decorated Fire & Safety apparatus, MCHC ROTC, MCHC Marching Band, decorated McLean County Public Library Bookmobile, and Santa Claus in his decorated sleigh.
In the Float Category, there were 4 winners:
1st place – Trail Junkies; 2nd place – Tammy’s Learning Center; 3rd place – Helton Insurance; 4th place – Myer Creek Archers
In the Open Class Category, there were 3 winners:
1st place – Terrel Riley; 2nd place – Jennifer Rickard; 3rd place – Shane Webb
The weather threatened rain for most of the day, but it all straightened out and was perfect for a Christmas parade. What a wonderful sight with all of the colorfully lighted units headed down Main Street. Thanks to everyone for coming out into the cold! On behalf of the Livermore Lions Club, Merry Christmas!
There was an additional treat after the parade that many checked out. An ice skating rink was set up on the tennis courts Thursday morning and was busy with skaters that night as well as Friday night, even with the periods of rain that appeared through the evening. Before and after the parade tonight, there were hundreds of skaters enjoying the slick smooth surface. So much fun! Thanks to the McLean County Public Library and Friends of the Library!

2019 December 14 - Livermore Lions Christmas Parade
2019 December 14 - McLean County Public Library Family Ice Skating Event
The Lighted Christmas Parade sponsored by the Livermore Lions Club, has been a big event in Livermore since 1989. It is held annually on the second Saturday of December and this year will be on December 14, 2019.
It is a free event and there is no registration fee for any entries in the parade. The only requirement is that the parade participating units be decorated with holiday lighting. Two categories are featured – one is floats and then all others. They will be judged, and monetary prizes will be awarded.
Parade participants assemble at 4:00 pm in the Livermore Elementary School parking lot and the parade kicks off at 5:00 pm.
Contact Livermore City Hall at 278-2113 or Sonny Renfrow at 278-5232 if you have additional questions.
This year's Praise Sing, hosted by St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church, was a very large success! Participants were Bethel Outreach Ministries, Livermore Missionary Baptist Church, Livermore United Methodist Church, Livermore General Baptist Church and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The music from the church choirs was beautiful and the sweet refreshments at the end of the program were enjoyed by all.
Someone in the audience even sent this message: "I had an awesome time at the community praise sing last night. Our churches have some real singing talent and the service was so uplifting. It was good to see many familiar faces...some that I had not seen since last year. The Catholic Church provided some wonderful refreshments after the service. What I really need to know is...Who is responsible for the cake in this photo and what the recipe is. It was so good." (We're working on providing that information to her!)

and honor and celebrate our Veterans. Our City of Livermore had the honor to participate again in this annual event.
The McLean County Junior Reserves Officer Training Corp, Honor Guard, presented a moving Prisoner of War / Missing in Action Ceremony which takes place in front of a round dining table set for five.
It is a privilege and honor to introduce and acknowledge this table in remembrance of all the prisoners of war, missing in action, and killed in action. From all American involvement in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, the Persian Gulf, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and more.
Many have looked at this table and wondered....
This table is set for five, representing the frailty of prisoners against their oppressors.
Remember, the table is round to show our everlasting concern for our missing men.
Remember, the table cloth is white to represent the purity of our soldier's intentions to respond to their country's call to arms.
Remember, the candle is placed in the center of the table to represent the families of loved ones, who kept the faith, waiting the return of ones so dear to them.
Remember, the red ribbon tied so prominently around the candle is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn upon the lapel and breast of thousands who bear witness to their unyielding determination to demand a proper accounting of our missing.
Remember, the lemon upon the bread plate is to remind us of the bitter fate.
Remember, a pinch of salt on the bread plate is symbolic of family’s tears as they still wait.
Remember, the glasses are inverted to symbolize their inability to share this afternoon's toast.
Remember, for all of you who have served with them, called them your brothers and sisters, depended upon their might and aid, and relied on them, remember them, for surely they have not forgotten you.
Special thanks to our Sponsors: B.F. Evans Ford, Ace hardware, A&S Fabrication, City of Livermore, Fairway Realty, Farmers Bank & Trust, Camron’s Foodliner, Hoover & Morris, PLLC, Independence Bank, Kentucky Legend, Livermore Lions Club, Modern Supply, Muster Funeral Homes, Ohio Valley Energy, Inc., Poole’s Pharmacy Care, Shelter Insurance, Southern Outdoors, VFW Post #5415.
We regret the parade was cancelled due to inclement weather. The colors, however, were presented at the Livermore City Building for Taps.

Labor Day weekend was extremely full this year! Thunder on the Green roared through Livermore much to the delight of everyone. The weather cooperated, although it was a very "summerish" hot weekend and the sun did not disappoint - it made an appearance pretty much throughout both days. Thanks to all the sponsors and vendors as well as local citizens who helped in all ways imagineable! Hopfully the photos will hold for everyone until next year!

2019 Aug 31 - Sep 01 - Thunder on the Green
2019 Sep 01 - Thunder on the Green-Joe Barnes Memorial Races
*******************************************
Thunder on the Green, a Kentucky Drag Boat sanctioned event, attracts more than 2000 people each year. It is presented by The Kentucky Drag Boat Association (KDBA) and you can contact the KDBA at (270) 763-2833 or you can check their Web Site at www.kdba.net where you can find all of their latest news. This 2-day event is scheduled this year on the weekend of August 31 - September 1, 2019.
At Thunder on the Green, boats race down a track set up on the Green River at Livermore between the Main Street and RV Park boat ramps. The boats take off from the Main Street Ramp and exit at the RV Park ramp. The name of the event comes from the intense roar of the engines echoing across the Green River.
Boats compete in classes based on how fast they can complete the race. Classes range from 6-second boats, meaning the boat crosses the finish line only six seconds after leaving the starting line, to 12-second boats. Racing classes are from QE through PWC. The boats race at speeds of up to 170 mph.
The $10 armband covers both days of racing and includes entry into the pits. Accompanied children, 12 and under are free.
2019 July 4 - Independence Day Celebration
What a crazy whirlwind day! Storms rolled in 3 times in the morning while setting up the riverfront park for the celebrations and then they returned in the early afternoon and appeared to plan on staying for the rest of the day! But by 4:00 pm, while the skies hadn't yet cleared, the rain ceased and the decorated bicycles and golf carts arrived at the assembling location for the promised parade. From that point forward the celebration took over and what a grand time we all had!
The Livermore Lions Club judged the decorated bicycles and the 1st place winner was Katie Woosley and the 2nd place winner was Cassie Woosley. The Lions Club also judged the decorated golf carts and the 1st place winner was Trina Case and the 2nd place winner was Carly Carmen. Special thanks to Lou's Diner for providing gift certificates for golf cart winners.
At 5:00 the food booths opened and at 6:30 there was a watermelon eating contest for adults and children, sponsored by Independence Bank.
The music was provided by "Loose Wheel", a Country, Blues, & Southern Rock & Roll band and was sponsored by Ace Hardware, and B.F. Evans. Once the music started so did the street dancing!
Independence Bank also sponsored the bingo games and finally, what everyone was waiting for, the fireworks which started at 9:00 pm and which were spectacular
Thank goodness the rains stopped! What a great evening it was!
Thanks to all of our vendors, sponsors, Loose Wheel, the Livermore Volunteer Fire Department, and all who helped in the clean-up process at the end of the night.
